S22-013 Functional and Structural Cooperativity in Photosystem II. Revisiting the ‘CF model (1991)’ in the frame of the new ‘PSII dimer structures’

چکیده

Oxygen evolution (OE) by photosystem II (PSII) is dependent on the lipid/PSII molar ratio of the PSII membrane. To explain the data, a lipid-mediated ‘cooperative function of PSII units’ (CF model) was postulated (Fragata, Strzalka, Nénonéné, 1991). According to the CF model, the OE enhancement has its origin in the formation of PSII aggregates at the optimum lipid/PSII molar ratio, or near. The size of the aggregates in the CF model have likely their counterpart in the PSII units arranged as dimers identified recently (e.g., Barber et al., 1999; Zouni et al., 2001).

Comparative Study on the Effect of Water Stress and Rootstock on Photosynthetic Function in Pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) Trees

The aim of this study is to evaluate the  effects of water deficit stress on chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) characteristics of photosystem II (PSII) and pigment contents in two rootstock seedlings (Pistacia atlantica L. and P. khinjuk L.). Three levels of soil water potential (Ψs) was used, including WWD (-0.05 MPa), MWD (-0.7 MPa) and SWD (-1.5 MPa). It was found that water stress increased the...

New Sequential Model for Human Hemoglobin: Alpha Subunit as Cooperativity Inducer

Hemoglobin is a tetrameric oxygen transport protein in animal bodies. However, there is a paucity of information regarding differences between alpha and beta subunits of hemoglobin in terms of oxygen affinity. The sequential model of Koshland, Nemthy and Filmer (KNF model) has attributed similar affinities to both alpha and beta subunits. The main purpose of the present study is to construct a ...

Revisiting the photosystem II repair cycle

The ability of photosystem (PS) II to catalyze the light-driven oxidation of water comes along with its vulnerability to oxidative damage, in particular of the D1 core subunit. Photodamaged PSII undergoes repair in a multi-step process involving (i) reversible phosphorylation of PSII core subunits; (ii) monomerization and lateral migration of the PSII core from grana to stroma thylakoids; (iii)...

Dynamics of cytochrome bf complex of photosynthesis apparatus

Photosynthesis is a process under which, the radiative energy is converted into the chemical one. Compared to the man-made devices, the photosynthesis apparatus is much more efficient. This high efficiency comes from its elaborate structure, very fast transition rates and a complex electron and proton transfer chain among the subunits of the apparatus. Its main subunits (Photosystem I (PSI), bf...

On the dimerization of chlorophyll in photosystem II.

In photosystem II, absorbed light energy is transferred to a reaction centre consisting of chlorophyll units. Release of an electron from the reaction centre is the starting point for the charge separation and electron transport chain in PSII. Crystal structures of the reaction centre have identified two chlorophyll monomers forming a dimer with a partial structural overlap, thus being stabiliz...
